Bulamu Healthcare needed a donation platform, but they didn’t want another “fill out a form and enter your credit card number” experience. Their mission is deeply personal, they fund healthcare for individual patients in East Africa, and the standard nonprofit donation flow stripped all of that away. A donor would land on the site, maybe read a paragraph, and then stare at a cold form asking for a dollar amount. There was no connection between the person giving and the person receiving.
The existing process also had no visibility into where donors were dropping off. People would start the donation flow and disappear somewhere in the middle, and there was no way to know why or where.
We built a custom WooCommerce donation platform that treated giving like an e-commerce experience rather than a form submission. The centerpiece is the Patient Stories page, a Netflix-inspired video layout where donors can watch real patient stories and choose exactly who to support. Instead of donating to a faceless organization, you’re watching a two-minute video about a specific person, seeing their face, hearing their story, and then clicking “Support This Patient.”
The donation checkout mirrors an e-commerce flow. Donors select a patient, choose a giving amount, and go through a streamlined Stripe-powered checkout. The entire experience is designed so that by the time someone enters their payment info, they’ve already emotionally committed. They’ve seen the person their money is going to help.
On the backend, we integrated Bloomerang for donor relationship management so the organization could track donor engagement, run retention campaigns, and see lifetime giving patterns. WP All Import Pro handles bulk data imports for patient records and donor lists via CSV.
The real game-changer was wiring up Google Analytics tracking across the entire donation funnel. We could see exactly where prospective donors were entering, where they were scrolling, and most importantly, where they were abandoning the process. That data let us identify specific friction points in the form flow and fix them.
